Scientific research becomes abstract art.

At C&G Partners, I worked with The Rockefeller University, a world-renowned biomedical research university located in New York City, on dozens of projects. For 5 years I’ve designed a yearly Graduate Overview Booklet, which conveys the unique qualities of Rockefeller to prospective students. In 2018, we redesigned their Annual Report in a brilliant silver to create a high-end keepsake publication for their donors. 

Because of the incredible innovation in bioscience they do, their communication materials demanded the same quality and distinction. The intricate line art that appears throughout was rooted in actual science imagery heightened to an artistic quality. This art combined with sharp white backdrops conveys modern, forward thinking science.

With the addition of high quality printing techniques and materials such as translucent paper, metallic ink, and subtle foil stamp techniques the publications convey a sense of understated premium quality, suitable for a small world-class scientific oasis in the heart of New York City.

The interior layouts focus on letting the unusual qualities of this remarkable institution shine through. The University is unique for its flat structure. With no departments or hierarchal restrictions students and faculty work together across disciplines to share knowledge, and achieve unparalleled breakthroughs every day.

The goal was to tell a story through voices of individual students and faculty. With engaging hands-on portraits, quotes, and a focus on details of real scientific discovery, we were able to develop a narrative structure that reveals Rockefeller’s values and unique attributes.
